Atlanta Falcons Claim They Have Room for Herschel Walker

Former NFL running back Herschel Walker recently claimed he could still play football if given the opportunity. Apparently that caught the ear of Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn who would welcome Walker to the team in a heartbeat:

“He’s one of my favorite all-time players,” Quinn said, to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “Yeah, we have room for him. . . . He’d definitely fit in great from a competitive standpoint.”

It is hard to determine whether Quinn is being totally serious about signing the 53-year-old running back to the team. Additionally, we’re not really sure if Walker is completely serious about playing. But if Walker is out there hearing this, it would be interesting to see if anything comes of this.

Walker played in the NFL for 11 years, most notably with the Dallas Cowboys. Over the course of his career, Walker totaled 8,225 rushing yards and 61 touchdowns.

A return to the game at 53 would have Walker setting a new record as the oldest active player. To date, the oldest player to sport a uniform was George Blanda, who played until he was 48.

It sure looks like there’s some comedic value to Quinn’s comments. If not, we all could be in for a treat when training camp comes calling next month.
