Amid Reports of Struggles, Matt Cassel’s Job Might Not Be Safe

Now that the Buffalo Bills have concluded their OTAs and their mandatory minicamp, it is reported by ESPN.com’s Mike Rodak that Matt Cassel is the “clear loser” of the quarterback group.

Rodak also indicated that EJ Manuel looked to be the slight winner of the bunch. Before the Bills began their OTAs, Rodak considered Cassel the front runner, and now he questions whether Cassel will even make the team’s final roster. It is reported that the team can save $4.15 million if it cuts Cassel prior to the start of the regular season.

Upon reading this evaluation, it must be noted that Rodak is only one of the beat writers questioning Cassel’s job. He was not the only quarterback who looked disappointing during the offseason. In Wednesday’s practice, all of the signal callers struggled. Things apparently got so bad that head coach Rex Ryan actually had to move his best defensive players off the field to build confidence among the quarterbacks on Thursday.

Unfortunately, this is disappointing news to report. Fans can only hope that a summer trade might occur where a more desirable backup quarterback such as Washington Redskins’ Kirk Cousins might enter into the picture. Nevertheless, the quarterback situation in Buffalo looks incredibly bleak at this time.

It appears at this time that there will be no clear-cut starter when training camp starts next month.

Until then, it’s anyone’s guess as to will be starting for the Bills when they face the Indianapolis Colts for their season opener.
