Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is excited to get the 2015 season rolling. He’s coming off of a great rookie year where he started 12 games and earned Pepsi Rookie of the Year honors.
During an interview to publicize the award, Bridgewater was asked which quarterback he would most like to model his career after:
“If I could be like any other quarterback that played in the National Football League, I would have to say Brett Favre is the guy. Besides the injuries and the hits and everything, he had a pretty successful career,” Bridgewater said, via Pioneer Press. “He’s a Hall of Famer for sure, multiple Super Bowls, and that’s something that I look forward to doing.”
Not quite done, Bridgewater added a bold goal for the remainder of his career:
“Hopefully, I can win more Super Bowls (than Favre).”
Bridgewater’s gleaming confidence must be commended here. Even though Bridgewater was voted by his fans to receive this award, he claims he doesn’t want to be a celebrity like Favre has turned out to be.
“I hate to consider myself a celebrity. I’m still a quarterback in the National Football League. I shy away from celebrity status because I don’t want to be known as that guy. But I had a chance to partake in the events and the festivities of the Kentucky Derby, and that was a huge honor.”
As long as the Favre comparisons stop off the field, Bridgewater should be fine.
The former Louisville standout put up 2,919 yards and 14 touchdowns in leading the Vikings to a .500 record in his 12 starts as a rookie. The expectation here has to be that Bridgewater will build off that strong 2014 campaign and have a breakout performance in 2015.
