The New York Jets have a quarterback to compete with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith.
No, they didn’t trade for Marcus Mariota.
Instead, the Jets were able to nab former Baylor signal caller Bryce Petty in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL draft on Saturday.
Over the course of his 25 starts at Baylor, Petty totaled over 8,000 passing yards with 61 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He was called on to replace Robert Griffin III in 2012, and the team’s offense didn’t miss a beat.
Petty also earned the 2013 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year award, passing for 4,200 total yards that season. As a backup to both Smith and Fitzpatrick, Petty makes a ton of sense for the Jets. He can sit for a year or two before potentially competing for the starting gig.
