Titans See Zach Mettenberger as a “Poor Team’s Tom Brady”

Whether we want to buy into it or not, the Tennessee Titans believe they made a spectacular pick in acquiring Zach Mettenberger in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL draft.

Even going as far as to compare Mettenberger with a legendary quarterback, the Titans management is reportedly referring to Mettenberger as a “poor team’s Tom Brady,” according to David Climer of The Tennessean. As we already know, Brady was also a sixth-round pick back in the 2000 NFL draft.

This report indicates that the Titans, who could select Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston with the second pick in the upcoming draft, believe in Mettenberger to lead the franchise moving forward.

Statistically, Mettenberger didn’t do a whole bunch to dazzle onlookers as a rookie. He put up eight touchdowns compared to seven interceptions for an 83.4 rating in 2014.

Though, those who have watched tape of the former LSU standout know full well that he’s more than a capable long-term solution in Nashville.

In the meantime, there’s a lot of speculation surrounding the Titans first-round pick. With at least a half of dozen teams rumored to be looking to trade up for Marcus Mariota should he last to the second pick, the Titans have a decision to make over the next couple weeks.
