The death of Freddie Gray in police custody earlier this month has sparked protests and riots on a large scale in the city of Baltimore over the past few days.
Unless you have been living under a rock, you know full well just how volatile the situation has been in Baltimore. A situation that started with civil unrest and protests, but has since morphed into a violent display from some of the city’s population, and others in the surrounding areas.
A day after Major League Baseball and the Baltimore Orioles decided to postpone the team’s game against the Chicago White Sox, all sides have agreed that it’s best to do without baseball on Tuesday.
After consultation with Major League Baseball and state and local officials, tonight’s game between the Orioles and the White Sox at Oriole Park at Camden Yards has been postponed,” the team’s press release read Tuesday morning.
Baltimore has been under a 10 p.m. ET city-wide curfew, and starting the game in the evening could cause fans and players to both break said curfew.
Remember, fans were locked inside the stadium on Sunday evening, as authorities attempted to assess the situation outside. That’s not something they want to see repeated.
Sometimes a game of baseball is just that. A game.
