New Orleans Saints Sign Anthony Spencer

Attempting to improve their edge pass-rushing capabilities, the New Orleans Saints have signed former Pro Bowl outside linebacker Anthony Spencer to a one-year contract.

Spencer, 31, has seen his career take a turn since racking up 11 sacks en-route to a Pro Bowl performance with the Dallas Cowboys back in 2012. Signing the team’s franchise tender following that season, Spencer played in just one game in 2013 before injuring his knee and being placed on injured reserve. The former first-round pick then played limited snaps this past season, recording a half of sack in 13 games.

Now prepared to move back to his more natural position as a 3-4 hands-up linebacker, Spencer is looking to rebound from what has been a disappointing past two seasons. With Junior Galette set to start at one outside linebacker position, the team is in need of another three-down player. While Spencer could very well be that guy, general manager Mickey Loomis and company are still expected to address this position with one of their two first-round picks.
