Mets Pitcher Suspended 80 Games for PED’s

New York Mets pitcher Jenrry Mejia, who was the team’s closer last season, has been suspended 80 games for violating the league’s policy against performance enhancing drugs.

Stanozolol is defined as a synthetic anabolic steroid.

Mejia, 25, leaves a huge hole in the back end of the Mets bullpen. He appeared in 63 games (seven starts) while recording a 3.65 ERA and 28 saves last season. He was on the 15-day disabled list due to an elbow injury at the time of the suspension, which is set to start immediately.

With Mejia out for more than half the season, Jeurys Familia will likely take over the closer duties on a full-time basis.
