Herschel Walker on the Vikings and Adrian Peterson: “They Should Trade Him”

Adrian Peterson

Former Minnesota Vikings running back Herschel Walker is no stranger to blockbuster NFL trades.

The two-time Pro Bowler was involved in the biggest trade in modern NFL history when he was sent from the Dallas Cowboys to Minnesota for a bevy of players and picks that helped set up the Cowboys dynasty of the 1990’s.

Over 25 years removed from that trade, Walker is speaking up about yet another elite running back that is rumored to be on the block.

In talking about Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and whether the team should trade him, Walker had this to say”

It makes no sense just to hang on to him just to hang on to him. I don’t think that’s right if you’re not getting along,” Walker told the Pioneer Press. “They should trade him because I think Adrian has lost his love for the Vikings with everything that went on last year. There is a lot of bad blood right now. I think Adrian feels that (the Vikings) should have supported him throughout his tough time, and I think they should trade him if they can.

While any Peterson deal wouldn’t be as monumental as the one that sent Walker to Minnesota back in 1989, it could potentially be franchise-changing for the team that acquires the future Hall of Famer.

Among the teams said to be interested in Peterson, the Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys, could conceivably be one upper-echelon running back away from becoming conference title favorites.

In the same report quoting Walker, Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press indicated that any Peterson deal would likely be completed before the draft next weekend.

While the Vikings haven’t necessarily put Peterson on the trade block, they are said to be looking for a high-round pick as compensation. Rumors have also continued to circulate that a deal would go down if another team meets that asking price.

Peterson spent all but one game on the Commissioner’s Exempt List while dealing with a child abuse case this past year. He was just recently reinstated off suspension by the NFL.
