Former Falcons DT Donte Rumph Homeless and Looking for a Second Chance

The Atlanta Falcons were spotlighted on HBO’s reality series “Hard Knocks” last season. Anyone privy to the show knows that the major focus is on rookies, including those not drafted into the league.

For those who watched the series, you may remember former Falcons’ defensive tackle Donte Rumph, who earned the nickname “Cupcake” during OTA’s. The nickname itself stemmed from teammates making fun of Rumph overreacting to an elbow injury he suffered in practice.

He was told by coaches that he would need to man-up and play better to remain with the team. Unfortunately for Rumph, he did not make the cut.

In a sad, and potentially inspiring turn of events, Rumph was spotting camping outside of the Falcons facility, reportedly broke and homeless.

Once reporters caught up with the Kentucky product, he had this to say.

I know you’re wondering why I’m camping out in front of the Atlanta Falcons. It gets to be a numbers game for us.

I was released last year after camp, went through some hard times. Could not really focus, I kind of lost myself in the midst of it all.

Rumph also reported that he and his family have no home, and that he’s hoping to get his job with the Falcons back.

While that doesn’t seem likely, he might just have another suitor:

It’s a sad story to cover, but hopefully things will end well for Rumph and his family.
