Dwayne Bowe On Cleveland Browns: “I Have a Chance to Revitalize Myself”

The Kansas City Chiefs released wide receiver Dwayne Bowe after eight seasons with the team. Managing zero touchdowns off of 60 receptions in 2014 and only scoring 13 over his prior three seasons, the writing appeared to be on the wall for Bowe after the team signed Jeremy Maclin.

Not without a team for long, the Cleveland Browns signed Bowe to a two-year deal worth $12.5 million last month.

Speaking about a second chance to revive his career, Bowe shared this with ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

I have a chance to revitalize myself. Just sit back and watch.

Browns general manager Ray Farmer and Bowe date back to 2006 when the former served as the director of pro personnel for the Chiefs. He was also with the team for Bowe’s breakout 15-touchdown season in 2010.

Bowe indicated that Farmer’s presence on the Browns played a role in his decision to join the fledgling franchise.

Him (Farmer) knowing what I can do, seeing me in practice, making crazy plays, splitting the safeties, he knows I still can do that. I couldn’t showcase that last year.

While this all sounds wonderfully nostalgic, magically re-creating the version of Bowe we saw when Farmer was with him in Kansas City seems unlikely. With the blend of Josh McCown and Johnny Manziel set to pass the rock to Bowe, it doesn’t appear he’s in a better situation than we saw with Alex Smith over the past two years.

The signing of Bowe only looks to be a a minor addition to the many needs the Browns have moving forward. However for now, at least he adds talent and past success to a receiver group lacking in both categories.
