Now for a piece of information brought to you by an organization that appears to be okay with mediocrity, the Cincinnati Bengals announced on Wednesday that they have signed head coach Marvin Lewis to a one-year contract extension through 2016.

The second-longest tenured head coach in the NFL behind Bill Belichick, Lewis has led the Bengals to the playoffs in six of his 12 seasons as the team’s head coach, including each of the past four years.
Unfortunately for Lewis and company, Cincinnati has not won a single playoff game in any of those six appearances. As an organization, the Bengals haven’t won a postseason game since January of 1991 when they defeated the Houston Oilers.
A lot has been made in recent years that Lewis isn’t the guy to lead Cincinnati from its current status as playoff contender to championship contender. Sadly, this has been proven time and again over the years.
It’s interesting to see Cincinnati reward Lewis for yet another on-and-done in the postseason. His contract was set to expire following the 2015 season, which could have made this upcoming campaign a make-or-break one for Lewis. That’s obviously now off the table.
