2015 NFL Draft: Giants Select Ereck Flowers Ninth Overall

In the second big surprise of the top 10, the New York Giants have selected former Miami (F) offensive lineman Ereck Flowers with the ninth pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Flowers, who can play both tackle and guard at the next level, definitely fits a position of need for Tom Coughlin’s squad. This is a unit that had been relatively thin and aging prior to the team selecting Justin Pugh in the first round last year.

With Pugh and Flowers now on board, the Giants have two franchise cornerstones to build with in front of Eli Manning.

Flowers, at 6’6″ and 329 pounds, adds a ton of physicality to this unit. If he does play outside, there will be some initial struggles against EDGE rushers. But that’s expected for a rookie tackle. Then again, the Giants could play Flowers inside, which would make him an immediate impact performer.
