Saints Trade Ben Grubbs to the Chiefs

The New Orleans Saints continue to part ways with valuable assets. They have reportedly traded two-time Pro Bowl guard Ben Grubbs to the Kansas City Chiefs for a fifth-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft.

Gubbs, 31, has started 118 of a possible 128 games in eight NFL seasons. Since signing a five-year, $36 million contract with New Orleans prior to the 2012 season, the former first-round pick has started all 48 games, earning a Pro Bowl trip back in 2013.

It’s yet another move for a Saints team that seems to be sending a message to its own players that it won’t be contending in 2015. New Orleans just recently traded star tight end Jimmy Graham to the Seattle Seahawks. In addition to this, it is losing key players on both sides of the ball due to a less-than-stellar salary cap situation.

As it relates to the Chiefs, they get a solids starter-caliber guard to help open up holes for Jamaal Charles in the running game. A fifth-round pick isn’t too much to pay for a quality player like Grubbs.
