Report: Tramon Williams Signs with the Browns

According to the Baltimore Sun’s Aaron Wilson, Tramon Williams has agreed to a three-year, $21 million contract with the Cleveland Browns.

The 5’11”, 191-pound cornerback tallied 70 tackles, 13 pass defensed, three interceptions and one fumble recovery during the 2014 campaign.

An undrafted free agent in 2006, Williams first appeared in the NFL as a member of the Packers the following season. After one year spent as a deep reserve, the Louisiana Tech product was a key contributor on the Green Bay defense throughout the next seven years.

He has appeared in 127 career games, tallying 464 total tackles, 115 pass defenses and 28 interceptions.

Williams was a full-time starter for the Packers since 2010, the year he was awarded a trip to the Pro Bowl as a replacement but did not participate due to Green Bay being in Super Bowl XLV.

The 31-year-old had visited the New Orleans Saints, who likely distanced themselves from Williams after signing Brandon Browner to a three-year deal.

After losing Buster Skrine to the New York Jets in free agency, the Browns were able to find a viable replacement to start opposite Joe Haden. With continued issues surrounding 2014 first-round pick Justin Gilbert, there’s no reason to believe that Williams won’t earn the starting gig. His $7 million annual salary only magnifies this belief.
