Report: Rams Trade Sam Bradford to the Eagles for Nick Foles

Want another trade around the National Football League? Sure, why not? According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter the St. Louis Rams have traded Sam Bradford to the Philadelphia Eagles for Nick Foles and draft pick compensation.

Rarely do we see major trades around the NFL. But this appears to be the third big trade of the first day of the new league year. It comes on the heels of both Haloti Ngata and Jimmy Graham changing teams earlier in the day.

Both Foles and Bradford had been on the trade block for some time now.

As it relates to Bradford, he’s coming off torn ACL’s in each of the past two seasons and has been inconsistent at best throughout his career. Despite re-signing Mark Sanchez over the weekend, Philadelphia seemed to think that bringing in an average veteran to compete for the starting gig made sense. Since being selected No. 1 overall in the 2010 NFL draft, Bradford has put up an 18-30-1 record as the Rams starter. Over the course of his career, the Oklahoma product has also tallied 59 touchdowns compared to 38 interceptions.

Looking at this from a Rams’ perspective for a second, they get a higher-upside and cheaper quarterback in Foles, who had a breakout 2013 campaign before struggling through inconsistency and injuries this past season. Foles has posted a 15-9 record in 24 starts with 46 touchdowns compared to 17 interceptions. His 2013 campaign saw the former third-round pick tally a ridiculous 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions en route to leading Philadelphia to a playoff spot.
