Report: Jeremy Maclin Plans to Sign with the Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs appear to be the unlikely winners of the Jeremy Maclin sweepstakes. According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, the veteran receiver is expected to sign with Andy Reid’s squad when free agency opens up on Tuesday.

There’s obvious connections here. Reid coached Maclin with the Philadelphia Eagles for his first four seasons in the NFL.

Following a devastating knee injury prior to the start of the 2013 season, Maclin returned from a year off to record career-high totals in receptions (85), yards (1,318) and touchdowns (10) last season for Philadelphia.

Maclin joins a Chiefs team that went the entire 2014 season without a touchdown from its wide receivers. He’s also likely going to replace Dwayne Bowe, who should be released/traded in the coming days, as Alex Smith’s primary target in the passing game.

While the terms of the deal are not yet known, the expectation has to be that Maclin will receive north of $10 million per season.
