Report: Bryan Bulaga Returning to the Packers

Free-agent right tackle Bryan Bulaga is apparently returning to the Green Bay Packers, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

While Mortensen didn’t get into detail regarding the contract, other reports suggest that it is in the $7 million per year range.

A fractured hip ended his 2012 season halfway through, and he missed all of 2013 with a torn ACL he suffered during training camp. But Bulaga, a former first-round pick of the Green Bay Packers, started 15 games in 2014 and was the fourth-ranked right tackle, according to metrics by Pro Football Focus (subscription required).

Bulaga has Pro Bowl potential if he stays healthy. He can play both right and left tackle, but if he develops into a Pro Bowl caliber player, it will be because he switched full time to protecting the blind side.

Retaining Bulaga was key for a Packers team that also re-signed Randall Cobb this past weekend. In order to help keep Aaron Rodgers upright, keeping Bulaga in the mix was a necessity. He’s not going to be the best player at his position, but he will remain a consistent force along the Packers offensive line.
