Redskins Planning to Host Marcus Mariota

The idea of the Washington Redskins selecting Marcus Mariota in the first round of the upcoming NFL draft has started to take over the football world.

Would they really go after Mariota after investing so much in Robert Griffin III just three years ago?

That’s almost literally the million-dollar question.

If the Redskins’ plans to bring Mariota in for a visit is any indication, the team is dead serious about selecting the reigning Heisman winner.

While some insiders have Mariota dropping out of the top-10, it remains a strong likelihood that he will go anywhere from second overall to the Tennessee Titans (or a team that trades up to that slot) to sixth overall to the New York Jets.

Sitting at five, Washington is in the enviable situation of playing possum with the Jets. It could very well use this reported visit to show a fake willingness to select Mariota with that pick. In the process, Washington would then up the value of a potential trade down or force the Jets to move up. That latter scenario would take a player the Skins may not seriously be considering (Mariota) off the board, leaving a real target at a different position on the board at five.

Then again, this is the Redskins we are talking about. Nothing would surprise us when it comes to the team’s decision making. It could very well be seriously considering Mariota, which would then set in motion one of the most ridiculous quarterback controversies of all time.
