Ravens Settle Ray Rice Grievance, Pay former RB Nearly $1.7 Million

After the Baltimore Ravens released running back Ray Rice this past season, the former second-round pick made it clear that he wasn’t happy about the actions of his former organization.

Claiming that he was unfairly released following his domestic violence case, Rice filed a grievance against the Ravens, who gave the former Pro Bowler $1.688 million to settle.

Some might be unhappy about the Ravens paying out this cash. However, it’s important to note that the organization only released Rice when the now infamous elevator video was released. Prior to that, he was just serving a two-game suspension from the league.

It’s an interesting dynamic to look at. Who in the Ravens organization knew about the video before it was released? Was Rice thrown under the bus in order for the Ravens to save face publicly? If the near $1.7 million Baltimore paid to Rice is any indication, the organization probably feels some sense of responsibility.

Rice, 28, is currently a free agent. He’s been working out in an attempt to latch on with another team, but that seems unlikely with no one showing interest in the running back.
