Philadelphia Eagles Sign Brad Jones to Two-Year Deal

The Philadelphia Eagles announced they have signed former Green Bay Packers linebacker Brad Jones to a two-year contract.

Jones was a seventh-round draft pick in 2009 and played his first six NFL seasons with the Packers. He spent the majority of 2012 and 2013 as a starter, registering 77 and 84 total tackles, respectively.

However, Jones was mostly relegated to special teams duty last season and tallied 18 total stops. Green Bay released the 6’3″, 242-pound linebacker on Feb. 20, so he was free to sign with another franchise at any time.

Jones has appeared in 76 career games with 36 starts. He’s tallied 258 tackles, 10 sacks and six pass defenses.

Geoff Mosher of CSN Philly had reported Jones would be visiting the team Monday, and the Eagles’ announcement came mere hours after the update.

While Jones isn’t a glamorous addition by any stretch of the imagination, the former starter fits one of Philadelphia’s biggest needs. The 28-year-old will provide much-needed depth at inside linebacker, joining Mychal Kendricks and DeMeco Ryans at the position.

Additionally, Jones’ signing is another signal that the Casey Matthews era is over with the Eagles. Perhaps Casey will sign with the Packers, which would result in a de facto trade between the teams.
