MLB Schedules Simultaneous Starts For Final Day of the Season

Sonny Grade to the Yankees capped off a tremendous set of MLB trades in 2017

Major League Baseball is definitely looking to add some drama to the final day of the regular season.

All 15 games on the final day of the season will start at 3:00 p.m Eastern, which will set into motion a flurry of dramatic finishes throughout the sport.

Unlike previous seasons, teams starting later on the day won’t have the option to rest starters based on what happened earlier in the day. We saw this first hand last year when the St. Louis Cardinals decided to rest Adam Wainwright after wrapping up the NL Central title when the Pittsburgh Pirates lost.

Just imagine the intrigue.

Felix Hernandez and Sonny Gray going up against one another as the Seattle Mariners battle it out against the Oakland Athletics in the Pacific Northwest. Meanwhile, Garrett Richards takes on the Texas Rangers as the Los Angeles Angels look to nab the AL West from either the A’s or Mariners.

Back east, Jose Fernandez takes the hill for the Miami Marlins against the Philadelphia Phillies with a chance to clinch the NL East. The only thing standing in Miami’s way is Max Scherzer taking the hill for the Washington Nationals against Matt Harvey and the New York Mets.

This is such a great idea. It brings the entire regular season to a culmination for a three-hour span on the final day of the year. Multiple division titles and wild card spots could potentially be decided within the matter of minutes.

Great job, Major League Baseball.
