Marshawn Lynch Addresses Media Regarding Super Bowl: “I was Expecting the Ball”

Wait, Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch addressed the media?

Bypassing all of North America, Lynch spoke with a Turkish television network for about 30 minutes last week.

Lynch, who is in Turkey along with other NFL players DeAngelo Williams and Gary Barnidge promoting a non-profit camp called American Football Without Barriers, addressed Ismail Senol of NTV Spor about Seattle’s last offensive play in Super Bowl XLIX.

To be honest with you, I would be lying if I didn’t tell you that I was expecting the ball. Yes, I was expecting the ball. But in life, these things happen. Like I told a reporter after the game, it’s a team sport.

While not blaming Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, Lynch did leave some stuff open for interpretation.

I had no problem with the decision of the playcalling. I think it was more of a how do I say this? When you look at me, and you let me run that ball in … I am the face of the nation,” the Pro Bowl running back said. “You know, MVP of the Super Bowl, that’s pretty much the face of the nation at that point of time. I don’t know what went into that call. I mean, maybe it was a good thing that I didn’t get the ball. I mean, you know, it cost us the Super Bowl. I have full confidence in my teammates to execute that plan because we’ve done it so many more times. But would I love to had the ball there? Yeah, I would have.

This is quite the little comment by Lynch, who has avoided the media over the years. In the end, Lynch’s closing statement is pretty classic.

But the game is over, and I’m in Turkey.

That’s much better than his canned response of “I’m just here so I won’t get fined.”

Regarding Lynch’s future with the Seahawks, nothing has been decided. Rumors persist that he may end up calling it quits, but the team is said to be offering the running back a nice little carrot to return.
