Jets Wide Receiver Wants Brandon Marshall to Earn His Jersey Number

New York Jets’ wide receiver Brandon Marshall has worn a No. 15 jersey for seven of his nine years in the NFL.

However, there is now a dilemma. Jets’ backup receiver Saalim Hakim (who?) currently wears No. 15—the number Brandon Marshall wants to wear as a new member of the Jets. While it is not unusual for veterans to pay a teammate off to retain their jersey number, Hakim is going to further extremes to make Marshall earn his number.

Hakim presented this challenge to Marshall (via NJ.com).

So Brandon Marshall is trying to get my number. I told him: If he beats me in the 40-yard dash, he can get the number. But if I beat him, he’s got to give me $25,000 — and he can have the number.

Hakim also boldly posted this to his Instagram, but has since removed the post. We have yet to see how Marshall will respond to the challenge. Though, it’s safe to say he’s probably got no chance of beating the 25-year-old punt returner at this stage of his career.

It’s likely Marshall will hand over the 25 grand to keep wearing his number. Even then, Marshall has been known to make some pretty crazy bets himself on social media.
