Jadeveon Clowney Upbeat About Return to Health

Almost a year removed from being the first pick in the 2014 NFL draft, Houston Texans pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney is looking to return to form following what was an injury-plagued rookie campaign.

Clowney, who played in just four games in his first NFL season, is encouraged about his recovery from knee surgery.

I’m not going to speak on (a timetable), but I’m making progress, and I’m very encouraged,” Clowney said during a meet and greet with fans on Saturday. “I’m working hard, but we’re not going to rush it. Rehab is tough, tougher than playing. You have to get there (NRG Stadium) earlier than everybody and leave later than everybody.

Considered a can’t-miss prospect coming out of South Carolina following his junior year, Clowney suffered setback after setback as a rookie. He underwent microfracture surgery on his right knee four months ago, and had dealt with a bevy of knee injuries prior to that.

The Texans are also expecting a healthy Clowney to return next season to team up with reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt to form a dynamic pass-rush duo.

Clowney seems upbeat about that possibility:

Things are starting to come together, just like I hoped they would.

Houston went 9-7 in a surprising overall performance last year. If it’s able to get this former No. 1 pick to live up to expectations, the team could potentially be looking at a playoff spot in 2015.
