Houston Texans Sign Vince Wilfork

It’s the end of an era. Former New England Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork announced on Twitter Monday afternoon that he has signed with the Houston Texans.

After 11 seasons, five Pro Bowls and two Super Bowl titles in New England, Wilfork will be calling another city home next year.

Set to count $8.9 million against the cap in 2015, New England made the decision to release one of the best defensive players in franchise history last month. At 33, it was a decision the team had to make.

In signing with Houston, Wilfork will find himself on the same defensive line as J.J. Watt, the league’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year. Even as a part-time player, the 325-pound defensive tackle should help take some of the focus off Watt, who was double and triple teamed a lot last season.

The deal is said to be for two years. Financials are not yet disclosed.
