Brian Hoyer on Johnny Manziel: “It Takes a Big Person to Check Yourself into Rehab”

Cleveland Browns’ quarterback Brian Hoyer is on course to become a free agent next week after being the primary starter for the team last year.

Even though he and fellow quarterback Johnny Manziel competed for the starting job last summer and Manziel sat mainly on the sideline, there was a respect on Hoyer’s side at least for the young quarterback.

Hoyer had this to say to USA TODAY regarding Manziel entering rehab.

I texted Johnny when he went into rehab, haven’t heard back. But I’m sure when you go into rehab they don’t allow you to use your phone. It takes a big person to check yourself into rehab.

The Browns have moved on from Hoyer by signing veteran quarterback Josh McCown, who looks to take on a mentoring role for Manziel once the young quarterback finds his way back to the team.

Manziel entered a treatment facility early in February after what has to be described as many public situations involving alcohol.

When Manziel finally gets a chance to check his phone, we are sure Hoyer’s message will be one of several showing support for the young quarterback stepping up and getting his house in order off the field.
