Albert Haynesworth to Ndamukong Suh: Redskins ‘Took My Love Away from the Game’

Albert Haynesworth is considered one of the biggest free-agent busts in the history of the National Football League. After signing a ridiculous seven-year, $100 million contract with the Washington Redskins in 2009, Haynesworth lasted a total of 20 games with the team. Considering that the deal called for $41 million guaranteed, Big Albert earned a total of over $2 million per game.

Fast forward a few years, and Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh enters free agency as the most disruptive player at his position to hit the open market since Haynesworth.

Considered by many the best defensive tackle in the NFL, Suh received some interesting words of advice from Haynesworth, who has been out of the league since 2011 (via ESPN Nashville).

He needs to really study, like, who he’s thinking about going to. Also, you need to kind of look at the track record of the coach, see if he’s going to stay, talk to some former players, just to get the inside scoop about it, and make sure that they’re playing the exact same defense as Detroit.

It’s important for Suh to look at all the variables that come with being a free agent. While he’s going to want to earn the best possible contract, the situation he goes into could impact his success moving forward in the NFL.

In terms of the Washington Redskins, who are a potential suitor for Suh’s services, Haynesworth offered up some interesting information regarding his playing days in D.C.

Well, I mean, it wasn’t fun,” Haynesworth said of playing for the Redskins. “To be honest, after like a year or so of doing that, I mean, it really just got old. It was not, not fun. At Washington, it took my love away from the game.

Known for their free-spending ways under owner Daniel Snyder, the Redskins have not seen that translate to the field. They have won a total of one playoff game over the past 15 years. In addition to this, Washington has had its fair share of drama throughout the years, this past season included.
