49ers Waive Jonathan Martin

The Jonathan Martin experiment has officially come to an end with the San Francisco 49ers.

The team announced on Thursday that it has waived the controversial former second-round pick of the Miami Dolphins.

Acquired from Miami last offseason for a conditional seventh-round pick following the entire Richie Incognito bullying scandal, Martin played a somewhat important role for a struggling 49ers team this past season, appearing in 15 games (nine starts). He was thrown into the mix due to an injury to the team’s starting right tackle Anthony Davis.

Martin was set to earn just over $1 million for the 49ers next season.

The move only comes as a surprise because of San Francisco’s lack of depth along the offensive line. This could potentially signify that another move is on the horizon.
