Zach Mettenberger Thinks He Would Beat Out Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota

The Tennessee Titans possess the second overall choice in the 2015 NFL draft. With that said, we all know they have the full ability to pick from the elite quarterback class of Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston.

The question is posed then: Do they select one of the top quarterbacks, or do they plan to move forth with Zach Mettenberger?

When asked what he thought about his “competition” so to speak, Mettenberger had this to say to the media at the Zone’s SportsFest in Nashville (via ESPN.com).

They are obviously very talented guys. If they were here I think they would say the same thing: If we had to compete out there, I think I’d beat them out.

Concurring with Mettenberger, Titans offensive tackle Taylor Lewan shared this:

I think any person that doesn’t say that is not going to be successful. There are only so many positions in the NFL you can be a part of. If another guy comes in that’s a first-round pick or a second-round pick or a higher pick than you were, you either fold it up or you can take that adversity and thrive with it.

In the seven games which Mettenberger played for the Titans in 2014, he managed 1,412 passing yards, eight touchdowns, seven interceptions and completed 59.8 percent of his passes.

The Titans definitely have hold a fabulous card with the second pick. If they do choose to stick with Mettenberger as their starter and plan to forgo on a quarterback, that second-pick might be up for a possible trade to a quarterback-needy team. It would not be surprising if the Titans’ receive some phone calls with potential trade offers over the upcoming weeks.
