Report: Josh McCown Signs with the Cleveland Browns

Free agent quarterback Josh McCown has apparently inked a deal with the Cleveland Browns.

McCown’s agent, Mike McCartney, was the first to report the news on Twitter.

McCown, 35, was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following a disappointing 2014 season that saw him post a 1-10 record with 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 11 starts.

Tampa Bay had signed McCown away from the Chicago Bears last offseason. The hope was that he would be able to lead the under-performing team out of the cellar in the NFC South.

It obviously didn’t work out.

However, the veteran is just two years removed from putting up 13 touchdowns compared to one interception in eight games (five starts) for Chicago.

This signing likely means that pending free agent Brian Hoyer is on his way out in Cleveland. Common sense seems to suggest that McCown will compete with Johnny Manziel and a potential rookie for the starting gig.
