Ravens Owner: ‘I had an Absolute Crappy Year’

Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti isn’t ignoring the fact that his organization didn’t necessarily have the best year.

From the entire Ray Rice scandal to the PR issues that came with it, Baltimore simply didn’t show itself in the best of light.

Speaking up on this past season, the much-maligned owner had this to say (via ESPN.com).

It was my worst year as an owner. I had 14 good years, and then I had an absolute crappy year.

Prior to the 2014 campaign, Bisciotti’s tenure as the team’s owner went largely unnoticed around the National Football League. Sure there was the Ray Lewis situation years ago, but in general the owner’s unassuming tenure was probably seen as a good thing.

Expanding further on what the organization went through in 2014, Bisciotti had this to say.

Things come in waves, and we certainly took a crash here last year,” Bisciotti said. “We’re a team and an organization that cares obviously about our reputation. When it takes a hit, then you examine what you do. In order to take a hit to your reputation, you have to have a pretty good reputation to start with, and we did. Now it’s about proving that it was an aberration. We believe that to be the case.

Acknowledging that the franchise’s reputation took a hit is a good thing. We can pretty much guarantee that character will be taken into account when the team courts free agents and conducts its draft this offseason.

Despite the off-field drama, Baltimore was still able to win 10 games and earn a playoff spot in 2014. It’s now all about the franchise moving forward from what was a disastrous situation over the past several months.
