Mike Wallace and Dolphins GM Reportedly Meet to Discuss Future

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace had a rocky ending to his 2014 season, reportedly pulling himself out of the team’s lineup in a Week 17 loss to the New York Jets.

According to the Miami Herald, Wallace and Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey met over a meal recently to discuss his future with the team.

While that could be a good sign, clashes with the team and Wallace’s expensive price tag have led to speculation that he and the team may be planning to part ways in 2015. The Dolphins signed Wallace to a five-year $60 million contract in 2013. While Wallace had 10 touchdowns this year, tying with his career high, he had his second season as a Dolphin where he failed to surpass 1,000 receiving yards.

Due $9.85 million in 2015 with a $6.6 million dead cap hit, Miami may be forced to keep Wallace on the roster unless it can find a trade partner.

Wallace is still quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s best receiving option. If the Dolphins don’t make any big-time wide receiver moves in free agency, it would make sense for them to hang on to Wallace and hope for the best.
