In what has been an injury-plagued campaign for the Oklahoma City Thunder, reigning NBA MVP Kevin Durant is going to be sidelined for at least a week after undergoing a procedure on his surgically repaired right foot.
While it’s not a new injury, Durant’s procedure was meant to reduce pain in his foot after undergoing surgery in October.
In announcing the news, Oklahoma City indicated that Durant will be re-evaluated again in a week. It is expected that he will play again during the regular season.
There’s no new injury that’s been created,” Thunder general manager Sam Presti said. “It’s just a matter of discomfort.”
Fresh off a massive trade that brought in some solid bench options, the Thunder are currently five games over .500 and in eighth place in the Western Conference. It’s going to be interesting to see how long Durant is out. If his new procedure calls for the All-Star to be out for an extended period of time, Oklahoma City could be in real trouble. If it’s just a matter of discomfort and needing rest, the Thunder should be fine.
Durant is averaging 25.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game this season. He was sidelined for the first 28 games of the season following the aforementioned surgery back in October.
