Buffalo Bills Reportedly in Contract Negotiations with Josh McCown

According to The Buffalo News, the Bills and quarterback Josh McCown have started contract negotiations.

The Bills have been in the hunt for a quarterback since they made it known last year that 2013 first-round pick E.J. Manuel was not the answer at quarterback. Kyle Orton was a short-term solution last year, but he has since announced his retirement.

McCown recently traveled to the Bills facility in Western New York for a meeting. Since then, McCown is known to have spoken also with the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets and the Chicago Bears. According to the report, a contract for the 35-year-old McCown could be wrapped up by Friday. Whether the Bills are McCown’s first choice is not known. However, if the deal he is being offered is appealing, it would appear that McCown would jump on it.

McCown also has a history with new Bills offensive coordinator Greg Roman, who he worked with in San Francisco for a short period of time a few years back. He has also worked with offensive line coach Aaron Kromer and quarterbacks coach David Lee.

Originally drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 2002, McCown spent four years with that team before being bounced between Detroit, Oakland, San Francisco and Carolina. McCown then spent three seasons with the Chicago Bears before signing with Tampa Bay last offseason.

He finished the 2014 campaign with 2,206 yards, 11 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 11 games. If McCown does indeed come to an agreement with the Bills, let’s hope he improves off what was a disastrous year with the Buccaneers.
