Trent Richardson Speaks on Benching: Never Happening Again

Last week found Indianapolis Colts running back Trent Richardson benched at the last moment for the divisional playoff game against the Denver Broncos. Speaking up on the benching, Richardson, who seems to be a bit in the dark about the whole incident, had this to share (via NFL.com)

That situation will never happen to me again. Anybody can quote me, today, because it’s never going to happen again.

And when asked if he was benched due to carrying a bit of extra weight, Richardson responded with this.

If it’s a weight issue, I’d like to be told that. I was sick for a while, that’s what I thought it was, that’s what I heard. You know better than me. You know more than I know.

After being benched in lieu of Michael Hill, who the Colts recently signed, Richardson has vowed to return to the playing field against the New England Patriots this Sunday. When questioned about his future with the Colts, Richardson had this to say.

It’s no time for me to be selfish. Just wait until after the year. After the season I’m going to evaluate everything.

It sounds like Richardson will be evaluated by the Colts after the season, and as far as whether he plays this Sunday, that’s up to the Colts as well.
