Report: Raiders Tap Bill Musgrave as New Offensive Coordinator

New Oakland Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio has apparently gone back to a familiar face in tapping Bill Musgrave as the team’s offensive coordinator.

Musgrave, a former back-up quarterback in the NFL, has been a coach in the league since his first gig as the Raiders quarterback coach back in 1997. Most recently, Musgrave served as the Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach in 2014.

His previous experience includes stints as the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings. Musgrave also held that title for Del Rio with the Jaguars in 2003 and 2004.

In six seasons as a coordinator in the NFL, Musgrave-led offenses have failed to finish better than 13th in yardage and 14th in scoring. His most recent experience as the Vikings offensive coordinator didn’t go too well. Stuck with Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel under center in 2013, Minnesota’s passing offense finished 23rd in yards and 27th in touchdowns.

While this hire will draw some criticism, Del Rio and Musgrave had success in Jacksonville and are familiar with one another.
