Ravens’ Terrence Cody Being Investigated for Animal Cruelty

Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Terrence Cody, a second-round pick in the 2010 NFL draft, is being investigated for animal cruelty by the Baltimore County State’s attorney’s office.

There isn’t much information available on the story, but the Ravens did indicate Friday morning that they plan to release Cody following the Super Bowl. While he is set to become a free agent in March, the team is apparently ready to cut ties with him a month before that. There was no mention of the investigation in the team’s press release, but it’s hard to believe Baltimore would take such dramatic steps if it didn’t take the investigation into account.

Wanting to get out in front of a potentially big story, especially following the Ray Rice situation, Baltimore is prepared to move on from a player that has not lived up to the hype since his days as a stalwart of Alabama’s defense.

Cody has not yet been charged with a crime, but Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun is reporting that the investigation surrounds a dog.
