Rangers Acquire Yovani Gallardo From the Brewers

Adding to what was a questionable starting rotation, the Texas Rangers have acquired veteran Yovani Gallardo from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for a trio youngsters.

A consistently above-average starting pitcher throughout his career, the soon-to-be 29-year old Gallardo is coming off a 2014 season that saw him post an 8-11 record with a 3.51 ERA in 32 starts. He also put up 192.1 innings and a decent 1.29 WHIP.

Gallardo’s best season came back in 2011 when he recorded 17 wins and a solid 3.52 ERA. He also earned an All-Star appearance in 2010.

He figures to join Yu Darvish and Greg Holland as the Rangers No. 3 starter in 2015.

Among the haul Milwaukee received in this deal is infielder Luis Sardinas, who was the Rangers sixth-ranked prospect heading into the 2014 season. The 21-year-old saw his first MLB action in 2014, hitting .261 in 115 at-bats. Not a power hitter by any stretch of the imagination, Sardinas hit .289 with just five homers in parts of five seasons in the minors.

Pitchers Corey Knebel and Marcos Diplan also head to Milwaukee in the deal.
