Hall of Famer Ernie Banks Passes Away

In an incredibly sad bit of news, former MLB player and Hall of Famer Ernie Banks has passed away at the age of 83.

The report comes from CBS Chicago, which referenced Banks’ family lawyer Mark Bogen in the sad piece of news.

The announcement came Friday evening from Mark Bogen, who said he was authorized by Banks’ widow to confirm the news to the media. A news conference was planned for Sunday at noon in Chicago.

Known simply as Mr. Cub, Banks earned 11 All-Star appearances in an extensive 19-year career in the Majors, all with the Chicago Cubs.

Banks hit .274 with 504 homers and over 1,600 RBI’s during his career. He also won two consecutive MVP awards in 1958 and 1959. Banks was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977.
