Yankees Sign Andrew Miller to a Four-Year, $36 Million Contract

Apparently the New York Yankees are back in the spending money business. According to various reports, the team has inked set-up man Andrew Miller to a four-year, $36 million contract.

Miller, one of the best late-inning relievers in the game, put up a 2.02 ERA and 0.80 WHIP in 73 outings between the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles last season. After moving to Baltimore during the trade deadline, Miller proceeded to record a ridiculous 1.35 ERA and 0.60 WHIP.

The 29-year-old lefty also struck out 14.7 batters per nine innings and posted a ridiculous 6-to-1 SO/K ratio.

With Miller in the fold, it’s readily apparent that the Yankees are not going to retain David Robertson, who recorded a team-high 39 saves a season ago.

Miller will team up with Dellin Betances to form what promises to be a dominating late-inning tandem in New York.

The deal is the largest in MLB history for a non-closing reliever.
