Report: Tampa Bay Rays Hire Kevin Cash as New Manager

The extensive process to replace Joe Maddon has reportedly come to a conclusion for the Tampa Bay Rays. ESPN is reporting that the team has hired former MLB catcher Kevin Cash to be their new manager.

At just 37 years old and without a ton of coaching experience, Cash is an interesting option here. He served as the Cleveland Indians bench coach last season after taking on a role as an advance scout for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2012.

Cash played parts of eight seasons in the Majors, hitting .183 with 12 homers in 246 games. As a former catcher, his past experience should come in handy here.

Cash replaces long-time Rays manager Joe Maddon who left for the Chicago Cubs back in November.
