Report: 49ers to Part Ways with Jim Harbaugh Shortly after Season Finale

At 7-8 on the season and in the midst of a four-game losing streak, the San Francisco 49ers season will end next Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

Fox Sports insider Jay Glazer is reporting that San Francisco has decided that it will part ways with head coach Jim Harbaugh within 24-to-48 hours after that game at Levi’s Stadium (h/t CSN Bay Area).

Glazer’s report suggests that CEO Jed York has already decided the move will be made. San Francisco has also apparently reached out to Harbaugh to tell him about Michigan’s interest in bringing in the school’s former starting quarterback.

The Oakland Raiders and Chicago Bears seem to be Harbaugh’s two likeliest destinations should he decide to stay in the NFL.

It remains to be seen whether San Francisco will fire Harbaugh or look to work out a trade. But this latest report seems to suggest that a firing is more likely.

Despite his success in San Francisco (three consecutive NFC Championship game appearances), it appears that a clash of egos between Harbaugh and certain member(s) of the front office will lead to a departure that has been reported for months now.

There’s also no reason to take Glazer’s report with a grain of salt at this point. It’s more than likely he’s been on the receiving end of leaks from within the 49ers organization or Harbaugh’s camp.
