Arizona State Wide Receiver Jaelen Strong Declares for 2015 NFL Draft

Considered by many to be a potential first-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, Arizona State wide receiver Jaelen Strong has decided to leave school and join the professional ranks following the team’s bowl game against Duke later this month.

Strong, a 6’3″ and 215-pound pass catcher, put up 75 receptions for over 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns during the regular season.

In making this decision, Strong forgoes his final season of eligibility and will take part in both Arizona State’s Pro Day and the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

Strong had this to say following the announcement.

First I would like to thank Coach Graham and the staff for believing in me from day one. I’d like to thank the Sun Devil Nation, the fans, and all of the people who work behind the scenes that I encounter everyday that have been like a family to me.

Most importantly, I would like to thank my teammates, my brothers, for having my back through thick and thin. Finally, I’d like to thank Jean Boyd and his academic staff for their dedication to Sun Devil Football.

Alabama receiver Amari Cooper is considered the consensus top receiving prospect in the draft. But Strong should vie with West Virginia’s Kevin White, among others, to be the second receiver off the board.

He’s seen as a physical threat on the outside, and someone that can actually stretch the field. That’s a rare combination for a receiver prospect.

We will have a better understanding of where Strong stands once he completes those aforementioned postseason events, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him selected on Day 1.
