UAB Investigating Point-Shaving Scandal

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is reportedly investigating a point-shaving scandal that has an indirect link to Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston (via Orlando Sentinel).

Defensive end Chris Rabb, who is a friend and former teammate of Winston’s at Hueytown High in Alabama, is said to be involved in the investigation.

Here is a blurb from the Sentinel.

A post on a gambling-related website suggested the link between the two players prompted Rabb to place a $5,500 bet on the first-half spread of the FSU-Louisville game. FSU was favored, but trailed by two touchdowns at the half. Winston threw two interceptions in the first half and three total, but he went on to pass for 401 yards and three touchdowns, rallying the Seminoles to a 41-32 victory in the second half.

Earlier on Friday, the gossip rag TMZ reported that UAB was investigating the point-shaving allegations.

UAB administrator Brian Mackin confirmed that an investigation was taking place.

We’re are aware of the allegation and looking into the matter…That is the only comment we will have at this time.

It’s important to keep in mind that there are not any direct links to Winston and authorities are only in the investigative part of the case.
