Steelers Release LeGarrette Blount

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Tuesday that they have released running back LeGarrette Blount. The fifth-year player from Oregon did not tally a single touch in the team’s 27-24 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 11.

Seemingly unhappy with his role as Le’Veon Bell’s backup, Blount made some news on Monday by leaving the field before the game was over. Once Blount was approached by defensive assistant Joey Porter, he did return to the Steelers locker room but proceeded to leave before the rest of the team.

Blount and Bell also made news during the summer. The two were arrested for possession of marijuana after being stopped on the way to the airport in preparation for a preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Blount had put up 266 yards and two scores prior to the release. With him out of the fold, rookie Dri Archer immediately becomes Bell’s primary backup at running back.
