Mets and Rockies Have Talked About Troy Tulowitzki

By now it’s well known that Troy Tulowitzki is not happy about the direction of the Colorado Rockies and is looking to move on from the only organization he has suited up for.

Barring something drastic changing on that front, Tulo will likely be calling another city home next season.

And fresh off signing Michael Cuddyer to a two-year contract, the New York Mets have reportedly had discussions with Colorado about Tulowitzki.

A Passan indicated above, this doesn’t mean that the two sides are on the verge of a deal. Even with a pretty solid core of young players, the Mets might not have enough to land the star shortstop, especially considering Colorado’s asking price seems to be astronomically high right now.

CBS Sports insider Jon Heyman is also pointing out that the two sides have not had any serious discussions about Tulo at this point.

The interesting dynamic here is that New York may be on the verge of going all in as it relates to contending next season. Not only did it sign Cuddyer to a contract worth $21 million over two seasons, the club yielded a first-round pick (15th overall) as compensation for landing the veteran.

In order to acquire Tulowitzki, the Mets would have to give up a few top young players, including No. 1 prospect Noah Syndergaard. It’s also not a secret that the All-Star has hinted that he prefers to play for the New York Yankees or a contending team on the west coast, specifically the Los Angeles Dodgers or San Francisco Giants.
