With Larry Fitzgerald Inactive, it’s John Brown’s Time to Shine

It is now official. Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald will be inactive for the team’s important matchup against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday afternoon.

This means that impressive rookie wide receiver John Brown will see an uptick in playing time against the “Legion of Boom” in the Pacific Northwest.

Through the first 10 games of his rookie campaign, the third-round pick from Pittsburg State has tallied 34 receptions for 468 yards and five touchdowns.

While playing a huge role in Arizona’s late-game success, Brown is seeing about 40 snaps per game. Compared to Larry Fitzgerald (63.8) and Michael Floyd (60.8), that has made the rookie a true No. 3 receiver in every sense of the word.

This will change Sunday afternoon when Arizona attempts to pretty much put Seattle away in the NFC West race. A win here by the Cardinals, and the defending champs will find themselves four games out with five games remaining in the regular season.

As you already know, the Seahawks play corner coverage. This means that All-Pro defensive back Richard Sherman will be lining up against Brown a vast majority of the time. And in reality, the rookie could make a huge impact in this one. He’s likely to see an uptick of about 20-25 snaps with Fitzgerald inactive for the first time in 2007.

If Brown wants to put his name in the Offensive Rookie of the Year conversation, he will need to show up big time against the best cornerback in the NFL. If so, it would go a long way in pretty much wrapping up the NFC West for the nine-win Cardinals.
