Thunder Coach: Russell Westbrook has ‘Small Fracture’ in Hand

The Oklahoma City Thunder lost for the second consecutive time to start the season on Thurday night, but that might not be anywhere near their biggest loss of the young season.

All-Star guard Russell Westbrook is apparently going to be joining reigning NBA MVP Kevin Durant on the sideline for a while.

Thunder head coach Scott Brooks indicated following the team’s loss to the Los Angeles Clippers that Westbrook suffered a small fracture in his right hand and will be evaluated Friday to provide the team with more information about the extent of the injury (via ESPN).

Westbrook exited the game midway through the second quarter. He appeared to injure the hand after hitting teammate  Kendrick Perkins in the elbow in an attempt for a rebound.

Depending on the severity of the injury, Westbrook could be out of action for an extended time.

If so, he will join numerous teammates on the bench. In addition to Durant (who is likely sidelined until December), Reggie Jackson, Anthony Morrow and Jeremy Lamb are also sidelined.

It’s so bad that this is what Oklahoma City’s current depth chart would like if Westbrook (as expected) misses a nice amount of time.

The Thunder may be able to add a player via NBA’s “hardship exemption,” but it doesn’t take a genius to realize that no one is going to be able to replace the production they have received from Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook in recent seasons.

Let’s just hope Westbrook is able to return sooner rather than later.
