Report: Rams Considered Favorites to Move to Los Angeles

Reading between the lines here, it sure does look like Southern California will have another NFL team to root for in the not-so-distant future.

On the heels of this report indicating that the NFL expects a team to be in Los Angeles within the next 12-to-24 months, comes this dandy from Mike Florio over at Pro Football Talk.

Of the three teams viewed as the most likely to move — the Rams, Raiders, and Chargers — the team viewed by the NFL as most likely to make the move is the Rams.

While all the focus has been on the Oakland Raiders moving south, the Rams remain an extremely viable option. Remember, owner Stan Kroenke purchased land at Hollywood Park last year, which is an optimal location to build a new football stadium.

In addition to this, the Rams have a year-to-year lease with the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. This means that they can up and leave without a financial consequence after each each seasons.

The Rams, who moved from Los Angeles to St. Louis the same year (1995) that the Raiders moved to Northern California, played second fiddle to the Raiders during their time in Southern California. They don’t have as widespread of a fan base in Los Angeles and could very well play second fiddle once again, this time to an extremely competitive San Diego Chargers team.

Speaking of the Chargers, they could potentially work to block this move. Nothing good would come out of a team technically sharing a market with the Chargers, especially considering their stadium situation. With that said, it’s obvious that the NFL would take care of that if a Rams move to Los Angeles becomes reality.
